Startup Weekend is happy to announce the formation of Western Colorado Entrepreneurs Meetup Group. Over 60 million Americans live in rural areas of the country according to the US 2010 Census. Colorado, which by land area is 98.5% rural is home to about 690,000 people.
“The Western Slope is sparsely populated compared to the Front Range. The regional population is growing rapidly, contributing to the state’s ranking as one of the fastest growing in the nation. The primary economic activities are ranching, mining, and tourism. Fruit farming is also prevalent in areas along the Colorado and Gunnison rivers, including the Grand Valley.
The most populated areas of the Western slope are, first, The Tri County area, which contain Grand Junction, and Montrose, Delta, and second, the Intermountain region, containing Glenwood Springs, Aspen, and Vail.” – wikipedia
Startup Weekend for Aspen challenges rural communities to come together, encourage entrepreneurship and develop innovations and startups that offer high value, bring in new dollars, diversify the economy and create new jobs that offer rural generations an opportunity to build their communities from within.
Western Colorado Entrepreneurs Meetup bridges between Startup Weekend Events and a continuing the effort to create market, capital and resource connections on which strong economic activity can be developed. We encourage Startup Weekend alumni and new participants to join The Western Colorado Entrepreneurs Meetup Group.
